Welcome to the open studio of the new musical theatre performance by performance artist Alix Konadu

Broken Home, My Shrine is a multidisciplinary performance focusing on migration and identity. Through music, text, movement and ritual, the performance highlights two storylines: that of the migrant and of the migrant's child.

This project draws inspiration from West African traditions, shrines and objects that evoke a sense of home and connection. Through live music and storytelling, the performers create a shared journey experience in which love and connection serve as a response to polarisation, and where past and future come together in a collective voice that resists dehumanisation.

Alix Konadu is a Belgian-Ghanese performance artist and actress who moves between theatre, music, ritual and multidisciplinary performance. Her recent work is strongly rooted in physical expression, spirituality and socio-political themes. In 2024-2025, Alix will play in, among others, the musical theatre productions Burning City and Hannibal, directed by Junior Mthombeni and Michael De Cock respectively, to be seen in houses such as KVS, Theater Rotterdam Schouwburg and Teatre Nacional de Catalunya. She is currently starring in Gavin-Viano's play A Plastic State of Mind, a production by HNT-jong. Besides working as an actress or in ensemble productions, Alix also develops her own work. Her project Broken Home, My Shrine received residencies at Espaço Alkantara (Lisbon) and perfocraZe International Artist Residency (Ghana) in 2024. She is also an artist in residence at Moussem Arts Centre for a long-term project. With a background in choreography , performance and drama, her work moves smoothly between text, music, body and image. Her artistic signature is poetic, layered and rooted in intercultural dialogue.
