RIF RESIDENCES

Rif provides a place for development, research, experimentation and presentation of musical theatre. We do this through residencies. These are open to artists of all ages and nationalities. Residents can work for a certain period of time in our music theatre workshop, a quiet place in the heart of Mortsel and a stone's throw from Antwerp.

Rif proposes three research tracks as a compass when applying for a residency. The tracks can be interpreted very broadly and ideally lead to as many diverse projects as possible. Of course, it is not compulsory to work within these tracks. Any interesting project is welcome!

The three tracks are:

- Conflict matters: these are projects in which conflict, in the broad sense of the word, leads to a central research question. This can be substantive, but can also be about collaborations, a combination of different artistic languages and so much more.

- Heritage revisited: these are projects that place tradition in a contemporary or new urban context. The research question stems from relating heritage to the present and how it can inspire each other.

- Co-operation: these are projects that start from a central question around ecology, (bio)diversity, (living) environment. Even more specifically, they highlight a dialogue between human and non-human life and how that non-human life can be given a voice in an artistic project or artistic practice. (See also our Zoöp page for more info on the Zoöperatie).

RESIDENTS

Rif supports +- 15 residencies annually.
A residence means:

- Space for 1-2 weeks in one of Rif's halls to work on the research and development of your project.

- Feedback by one of our staff if required.

- Rif does not provide production or business support itself, nor does it vouch for distribution. We are of course happy to help you with suggestions for possible partners.

COPRODUCTIONS

Rif supports +- 6 residencies per year with a co-production.

A residency with co-production means:

  • 1 to 2 weeks space To work on the research and development of your project.
  • financial support to employ 2 persons for a maximum of 2 weeks. The remuneration of those persons will be according to seniority, determined according to the collective labour agreement for the performing arts.
  • if required a show moment/open studio during or at the end of the residency.
  • a place in the programming of our festival or our series What smells through the noise crop.

SOME TIPS ON WRITING YOUR PITCH:
- What is your artistic profile, what did you possibly make before this? Images (via online links) are always welcome.
- Briefly describe what you want to research and in the context of which project you want to conduct this research.
- How many people are working on your project? Are overnight stays needed for some of them?
- Make it clear what you expect or need from your residency with us.
- Please indicate during which period you want to come on residency.
- Don't make your pitch too long. Try to limit your text material to one A4.
