09:30 - 15:30
MORMONT/NASSOGNE

Meditative walk as part of the three-year research project KuNaZo³ and the commitment of Rif as Zoöp.

WHEN?
Friday, December 5, the first morning after the last full moon of the year and also World Soil Day.

MORE INFO
The night of 4-5 December is the last full moon of 2025. It is traditionally called the Cold Moon: often seen as a symbol of stillness and reflection, associated with perseverance, quiet strength and the ability to endure the darkest, coldest nights and emerge as new. The ‘Cold Moon’ of 2025 is also a supermoon and the most “extreme” full moon until 2042.

BOTTOM BELLY BRAIN
Soil life is very complex. It consists of a large number of micro-organisms such as nematodes, bacteria and fungi and macro-organisms such as insects, mites or earthworms, which interact with plants and animals to form a complex web that keeps the soil healthy and in balance.

Human activity (mostly for agricultural, industrial or urban purposes), has a major impact on the earth's fragile skin and is the main cause of soil degradation. However, healthy soil is essential for all life on earth and therefore also for us. The food we eat ends up in our intestines. 30,000 billion bacteria make up our microbiome in our intestines.

And that microbiome, in turn, has a huge amount to do with our brain. After all, our gut has a very extensive and complex nervous system that connects to both cognitive and emotional centres in our brain. Disturbances in the gut microbiome are associated with various disorders, such as depression, anxiety disorders, autism, ADHD, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.

PRACTICAL
We will leave in a small group from the hamlet of Mormont (Nassogne) at 9.30am and make a 20km loop via Fourneau Saint-Michel, towards Ambly, Grupont and Masbourg until we are back in Mormont around 3.30pm. For more info send an email to judith@rif.be.

TOWN
“It felt like hearing a familiar melody again, but in a different key. I recognised a place here and there, a bend in the path, an opening in the forest - and yet everything was new. The season had given the landscape different colours, a different smell, a different silence.” Prof Dr Lukas Pairon, Social Impact of Music Making

“Encore merci pour cette très belle journée, Judith !” Marie Lecomte, Contrat de rivière Lesse

“C'est juste ce qu'il me fallait : la nature, un bon guide et le silence !” Chantal Van Pevenage, author of the book Collaborer avec la terre et ses êtres vivants

“...A pleasant reminder of our silent balade. Yaxa is also behaving like a sphinx today, dreaming doggy dreams about her jittery effort among deer and wild boar. It was a game feast for her.” Ann Tuts, actress
