Beyond the sea is a transdisciplinary performance that reflects on leaving traces and finding your place in an ecosystem. On a floor of clay sand and paper, traces of the sea turtle, one of the oldest living animals on earth, are recreated. It also experiments with a large balancing mobile that visualises the ecosystem.
Beyond the Sea is a project that will take place in collaboration with-and in places where the sea is, and partners connected to it. Walpurgis is giving Mirthe an invitation to develop part of the making process with them.
Mirthe continues to work with a marine ecologist and a team of performers. The performance will be further developed in 2023 and shown in 2024, in conjunction with an exhibition and a film screening of documentary ‘The Hardened Back’. Mirthe's research in marine ecology stems from her travels in West Africa, where she immersed herself in sea turtle conservation and followed a group of fishermen in their work to protect sea turtles.
