After much violence and opposition,
she' gave him a chewing blow from haer hand;
do wier zyn blood ignite;
Hy spoke: 'Dees onverdraegbaer schand,
I swear, I will avenge that one.'

Sascha and Leonore plunged into the medieval folk tale Genoveva of Brabant with the switching class of the Atheneum of Antwerp at the beginning of September. After announcing the second lockdown, they transformed the school into an improvised film set. The result is magical, the fun and generosity it expresses disarming.

View Genoveva, the film.

We are in a village near Trier, Germany. Paltz Countess Genoveva discovers she is expecting a child. When her husband leaves the castle due to disagreements in a neighbouring village, family friend Golo sees his chance to pay Genoveva a visit at night....

Multi-year research programme A Nyeu Liedeken tests old Flemish folksongs for their role and meaning today. How does an old folk song sound from the mouths of current inhabitants of Antwerp? How should this song transform so that it also speaks for us?

For Genoveva hits Teletext joining hands with pupils of link class '20-21 of the Royal Atheneum Antwerp, KunstZ, Zino Moons (ONZIN) and Younes van den Broeck (Loods des Doods). Together, they provide the medieval folk tale Genoveva of Brabant of a contemporary update.

Genoveva Is an investigation into the power of myths. An experiment in perspective switching. Who is starring in this story? What if we let other characters speak? In the corridors of the Atheneum at Roosevelt Place, this archaic tale is transformed into horror. A courtly countess behaves devilishly, God and the angels come to talk about their dream holiday, a red deer begins to weep. In search of Genoveva.
