We thought everything was eternal, that nothing ever ended. And then a void fell.

At Le Vide the musical and aural possibilities of The Whale explored as a tool to create a shared empty space through sound. The kind of void that makes itself known the moment a major event pulls people out of their routine, forces downtime and creates an in-between space to choose. To really choose. The moment when everything seems possible for a moment, because all the codes and frameworks we unconsciously conform to in the delusion of everyday life fall away. How can such a moment be captured in sound? How to construct a similar experience of awe-inspiring emptiness using the deep tones of this instrument? This research forms the basis of a collaboration with Brussels dance duo Les Mybalés and Spanish director Ester Nadal.
