Theatre producer Leen Braspenning invites Bosnian drama student Lejla Subo to collaborate in deFENIKS with some actors, a visual artist and a drummer.

The theme Lejla brings from her native Sarajevo is silence.

The silence between generations. How there is silence about a war and how that silence helps define her identity.

  • What happens when cracks appear in that silence?
  • Can you make silence negotiable through play, sound and movement?
  • How do other artists portray her story?
  • What other stories do they intertwine with Lejla's?
  • What if the silent generation is no more? Can the next one find the right words then?
  • And should you always want to find words and images or do you carry the silence?

During her residency at theFENIKS, Leen Braspenning organises three public tone moments. Each tonal moment produces a different form and interpretation, which can only emerge and exist that evening between those players and the audience present at that moment.
