On horseback

She hesitates. She has already flipped the whole scenario over and over in her head twenty times. It doesn't help. She undressed in her room and looked at herself in the mirror. She needed several. I had to put them in front of her. She was looking for the image people would get of her. Vain effort. She knows. She wants to know what it will be like when it's over. She can know. The sun will set. The next day, everyone will go back to work. The count will do what he promised. The rest is of no consequence.

Extract from On horseback

A show starting from a witty piece by Elvis Peeters about Lady Godiva, the remarkable lady who made history by riding naked on horseback across Coventry's market square. According to legend, because her husband, Earl Leofric of Coventry, had told her in jest that if she did so, he would be willing to stop raising taxes.
