Phoenix

he knows the fire
over and over again
an eye in the sky
an eye on the ground
jealous of the reed bunting
the cuckoo the rook
on his branch
above the world

excerpt from The Phoenix

Is the phoenix an animal? Can an animal talk? If the phoenix is not an animal, can it be a bird? May we refer to him by a masculine noun? Does the phoenix have a gender? Does he know lust? What does sexuality mean to him? Is he lonely?

Behold some of the questions I would like to see addressed. I say dealt with, not answered. My ambitions do not extend beyond my imagination. Goals are there to be achieved. Boundaries are there to be crossed. Limits that lie beyond the goal, however, hardly anyone pays attention to them. And that is exactly what this is about. For what is the goal? Eternity, daily eternity. To settle for less would be laziness. Convenience is for after eternity.
