Joyous entry into Ghent of an old, fallen oak tree

"Tree and cart. Both are bearers of time and silent witnesses in a story in which man is the protagonist steals. Grounded in a new story, we take them to their next destination." - Max Pairon

Somewhere along the stone road between Merelbeke and Ghent, a fallen oak tree rests on an old cart. He is waiting. It waits for the gates of Ghent to open. We grease the hinges, tighten the sangles and celebrate the ropes. Everything and everyone we take in tow for the joyous entry of That silly Jan in Ghent. Be welcome along the way and during the festive reception at the Koer.

Max Pairon (°1988, BE) studied Drama at KASK Ghent, where he immediately developed a keen interest in scenography and dramaturgy. As an artist, he does not pin himself down to one medium, but is guided by an anthropological view that constantly feeds his practice. He is also one of the driving forces behind De Koer, a social and artistic operation at the Brugse Poort in Ghent. Previously, Max's work was shown at Bâtard Festival (Brussels), among others, and he designed costumes for Bosse Provoost's performance Matisklo (2018).
