House-scenographer Stef Depover is a master of recycling. Using recovered support beams from the demolition of his roof, he built for We, the drowned a six-metre-long single-string instrument that generates mainly bass tones. He called it The Whale.

In his search for its musical theatrical uses, he became fascinated by digital plug-ins that, when combined with the instrument, promise epic infinity. Following Portici and Le Vide he continues his research into the numerous expressive possibilities of The Whale further using plug-ins, bows, hammers, hands and bodies.
