A Nyeu Liedeken is a two-year artistic project by Leonore Spee and Sascha Bornkamp, which examines Flemish vocal folksong repertoire for content of diversity. Who is the ‘I’ in Flemish folksongs and how does it relate to ‘the other’? Do we know our own cultural-historical truth regimes and how do we deal with the remnants?

Five folk songs, recorded in Antwerp between 1544 and 1944, serve as research objects. In conversation with heritage specialists, folk music practitioners, politicians, lay people and newcomers, among others, a network of current interpretations of this song material is mapped out.

A number of (location-based) projects will take place in 2019 and 2020, in which old Antwerp folk songs will be given a new urban update. On location and in collaboration with Antwerp residents and artists, Teletext is looking for a new form for this heritage.
