Context
Following the creation of the fairy opera Fidelio at the Théâtre Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (FR), just before the Paris attacks, musical theatre maker Judith Vindevogel was invited to present her adaptation of Beethoven's opera at the international and interdisciplinary colloquium at the University of Zurich in June 2017. Following this, she was invited to collaborate on the collection of essays Le Fidelio de Beethoven, Transfers, circulations, appropriations.

À l'occasion de la création de l'opéra féerique Fidelio au Théâtre Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (FR), juste avant les attentats à Paris, la créatrice de théâtre musical Judith Vindevogel a été invitée en juin 2017 à présenter son adaptation de l'opéra de Beethoven lors du colloque international et interdisciplinaire à l'Université de Zurich. Par la suite, elle a été invitée à collaborer à l'ouvrage collectif Le Fidelio de Beethoven, Transfers, circulations, appropriations.

Presses Universitaires du Septentrion from Lille will publish the book resulting from the Fidelio research project. This publisher is known for its multidisciplinary approach in its publications within the humanities and social sciences, including art productions. This is in line with the scientific focus of our project.

 

The book is published in the “Mondes germaniques” series, which fits the Franco-German dimension of the project. It aims to bring together different scientific traditions and disciplinary approaches so that different perspectives and methods can enrich and complement each other.

 

The publication will be available in two formats: a traditional paper version and a digital format (OpenEdition Book).

 

The book bears the title of the project: Le Fidelio de Beethoven. Transferts, circulations, appropriations (1798-XXIe siècle). Five central themes are dealt with in a chronological-thematic format. These form the five sections of the book:

I- Origins and contemporary contexts of Fidelio (1798-1814)

II- Fidelio and its international spread in the 19th and 20th centuries

III- Fidelio, from the Weimar Republic to German reunification

IV- Reception and mediation of Fidelio in the 19th and 20th centuries

V- Scenic and musical reinterpretations of Fidelio in the 21st century

Presses Universitaires du Septentrion à Lille éditerai l'ouvrage faisant suite au projet de recherche Fidelio. Ces éditions sont reconnues pour la qualité de la perspective pluridisciplinaire de leur catalogue dans le domaine des sciences humaines et sociales incluant également les productions artistiques, ce qui correspond à la ligne scientifique de notre projet.

 

Le volume sera édité dans la collection “Mondes germaniques” conformément à la dimension franco-allemande du projet. L'ouvrage entend en effet être le reflet de traditions scientifiques et de pratiques disciplinaires souvent différentes, permettant de diversifier et de croiser les regards et les approches.

 

Ce volume sera publié sous deux formats: un format traditionnel papier et un format numérique qui permettra d'élargir la diffusion (OpenEdition Book).

 

Le volume reprendra le titre du projet : Le Fidelio de Beethoven. Transferts, circulations, appropriations (1798-XXIe siècle). Cinq grandes thématiques sont retenu suivant une trame chrono-thématique. Elles constitueront les cinq parties du volume:

I- Origines et contextes contemporains de Fidelio (1798-1814)

II- Fidelio au cœur des circulations internationales aux XIX e et XX e siècles

III-Fidelio, de la République de Weimar à la réunification allemande

IV-Réceptions et médiations de Fidelio aux XIX e et XX e siècles

V- Appropriations scéniques et musicales de Fidelio au XXI e siècle
